Northrop reveals concept lunar vehicle for NASA’s Artemis astronauts

The Defense and Aerospace company Northrop Grumman will work with several partners to develop a Lunar Medan (LTV) vehicle for NASA, the company has announced. Rover will be used to pick up NASA astronauts throughout the moon surface as part of the artemis crewed mission in the future. Some other companies will fulfill their own parts of the project, including Michelin, intuitive machines, lunar outpost, and AVL.

NASA plans to restore humans to the moon under their artemis program, but it will need a way for astronauts to navigate the surface of the moon as soon as they arrive. Northrop has announced that it will work with the companies mentioned above to develop LTV with a number of capabilities, not least among them are agility and low costs, relatively speaking.

Northrop said it would collaborate with the astronaut era of NASA Apollo Charles Duke and Dr. Harrison Schmitt for input on how to design artemis rover based on their experience. In addition, Aerospace companies have released a concept image that shows what artemis LTV along the video that introduces the team behind the project.

Meanwhile, partner companies, each has their own role in this project. Lunar Outpost, for example, will donate thermal and dust mitigation knowledge, while Michelin will – as you would expect – focus on designing tires without reply that will be used with the Medan Moon vehicle in the future.

NASA utilizes a commercial company to develop various technologies and innovations for its artemis program, something that helps agencies cut costs and accelerate the rate of development. LTV designed for Artemis will display the next generation technology, build the best part of Rovers used during Apollo mission while offering the ability needed for modern months exploration.

The NORTHROP LTV project seems to be in the early early stages; Apart from the concept of rendering, the company has not provided any specifications on future vehicles. While each of the four partner companies will utilize their respective skills in various technologies, Northrop will be the main contractor that includes everything starting from system integration to training.
