After the allegations of plagiarism and copycat naming schemes, streamlab has announced that it removes “OBS” from the popular Livestreaming application name. At first glance, this step is a direct response to the developer behind open broadcasting software (OBS), which claims that streamlab uses their naming schemes to their wishes. Fast response, though, is more directly related to criticism from top ribbons such as Pokimanana and Hasanabi, which threatens to stop using streamlabs software if it does not overcome imitative problems.
Streamlab apology appears as a defensive, because it argues that the software is also open source like OBS, one of the first tools built specifically for Livestreamers. The Streamlab application, which has been praised for well-designed and rich features, is also based on the OBS fork. Even though it was the beginning of being shared, Streamlabs was always a separate project. It also offers premium services above the free core application, so you can argue that the streamlab partly triggers its business based on OBS’s popularity.
