Android 12L will leave developers fewer excuses to snub tablets

The tablet has been there before even before the smartphone appeared, first when the tablet powered on a large window before Android and iOS took over. While Android tablets are also on the market for many years, the user experience still leaves a lot to be desired. Google’s cellular platform does at least it indeed allows telephone applications to be used, at least compared to iOS before there is ipado, the experience is still sub-optimal, and some developers go out of their way to fix them. With a drop of the upcoming 12L Android feature, however, Google puts a big emphasis on a large screen, and provides the developers of everything they need to make the application better on the device.

The big screen here not only refers to the tablet, of course. Android 12L also includes a cellphone that turns into a larger screen, A.K.A. Fold, as well as a situation where the Android application runs on a separate external display. That’s the case by connecting an external monitor or, closer to Google’s heart, running an Android application on Chromebooks.

In the latest blog posts for developers, Google reminded developers of new tools and features they will have with Android 12L. Even though it won’t be like a miracle, updates to the Android and Tooling design guide will at least help them realize the concerns related to the scenario mentioned above.

At the end of the user, Google will also highlight the application that has been optimized for large screens. Google Play results and search rankings, for example, will reach such applications when using tablets, fold, or chromebooks. One of the main focuses of the application is to emphasize multitasking, something that is easier to do when you have more space for more than one application.

To further lower the barrier to enter, Google seems to put a discount on the Lenovo New P12 Pro tab which was announced back in September. The tablet has not been launched in the US, but the promo reported by 9To5Google will at least be available until February 2022.
